Martin Haeger is a registered UK architect whom has been resident in Asia since 1990. He gained his BA (Hons) degree in Architecture in 1986 and continued to complete his post graduate in Architecture at Edinburgh University (UK). He worked in Chicago USA at
Skidmore, Owings and Merill and in 1990, moved to Singapore to work with William Lim Associates and later with a international design firm, Denton Corker Marshall.

He has also been engaged in a development management capacity in UK and therefore has a critical understanding of the commercial objectives and viabilities of project development.

He founded HL Design Group Sdn Bhd (formerly known as HLW) in 1994, building on its strength as a multi-discplinary design consultancy combining skills in Architecture, Strategic Planning, Interior and Identity. Martin has been responsible for the direction of numerous successful retail commercial and residential projects throughout South East Asia. His key role in the firm is in project development strategy, macro design direction and business development.

Born in the UK and educated in Leicester and London, James remained in London during the eighties retail boom designing interiors for prestigious residential and retail clients such as Harrods, Jaeger and Liberty. His architectural training and dedication to interior detailing provide him with a critical understanding of both macro and micro design and a philosophy that good design provides out of the ordinary solutions to ordinary problems.

Ahmad Izaham is a registered architect with Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia since 1999. He obtained his BA (Architecture) in1990 from Deakin University, Australia.

He worked with architect firm Hijjas Kasturi Sdn Bhd upon completing the degree and later joined architecture firm Hajeeda and Associates Sdn Bhd where later appointed as an Associate in 1993. After a short absence from Malaysia between 2002 and 2005 to work with a design firm in Beijing, Ahmad Izaham returned and joined HL Architecture Sdn Bhd being a shareholder and as Director in HL Architecture Sdn Bhd since 2005.

James Chua graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture (First Class Honours) from the University of Melbourne in 1993. He has since worked with Raymond Woo & Associates (Singapore), Architectural Associates (Singapore), Pakatan Reka Arkitek (Kuala Lumpur) and since 2005 with HL Design Group, Kuala Lumpur.

In his early years, he worked mainly in the capacity of a project designer for various high-rise residential, hotel-commercial, institutional and master-planning projects. Noteworthy projects include the Shan Shui Golf Resort in Tawau, Taylor’s University College (Sri Hartamas Campus), PD World Marina Resort, Bandar Sunway II Master Planning Competition (one of 5 finalists) and the Penang Turf Club Redevelopment Master Planning Competition (1st prize Winner). He went on to gain exposure and detailed experience in running the design team in Pakatan Reka Arkitek and being involved as an inaugural member of Pakatan’s ISO certification before eventually gaining a place in its senior management committee.

He joined HL Design Group in 1995 as an Associate Architect with a keen involvement in ID, graphics and architectural projects. It was during this time that James was heavily engaged in retail planning and design – his work to date include the planning and designing of Low Yat Plaza, RiverCity & RiverWalk, NU Sentral, Gurney Paragon, the KL Grace, Subang Nexus, Tesco’s Big Mall and ECM Libra Investment Bank. James was appointed as Director of HL Design Group in 2018.

Ngu Xian Dung is a registered Architect & Interior designer with Board of Architect Malaysia (LAM),
Corporate member of Malaysian Institute of Interior Designer (MIID) and Professional Technologist
with Malaysia Board of Technologists. He specialised in Architectural Design, Strategic Planning,
Interior Design & Building Information Technology (BIM).

He obtained his Master of Architecture (M.Arch) from Universiti Malaya and Bachelor of Design
(Architecture) from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
He worked with Cy Chan Architect Sdn bhd prior to  joining HL Architecture Sdn bhd in 2016. After a short absence where he joined CL&O Architects Sdn Bhd in 2022, he returned and joined HL Architecture as Director of HL Architecture Sdn Bhd. He has experience in various project types including master planning, residential, commercial, institution, industrial & mix development.

Ar. Sze-ee Lee is an architect / lecturer based in Malaysia. She worked with international architectural firms, Cox Architecture in Sydney, and Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA) in London prior to her return to Malaysia in 2011. She has more than 15 years of practical experience both locally and overseas in residential, commercial and institutional projects.

Sze-ee believes that with thoughtful design and careful planning, quality architectural design brings quality lifestyle to people. Currently she is a Director of HL Architecture Sdn Bhd and a Senior Lecturer at School of Architecture, Building and Design (SABD), Taylor’s University in Malaysia. She is also a PhD candidate, with doctoral research in evolving career paths for 21st century architects.
